Thornton battles in Gateway Dirt Nationals at The Dome at America's Center
Taking part in the Gateway Dirt Nationals as one of 60 Modifieds invited to the seventh running of the annual event, Dylan Thornton traveled to The Dome at America’s Center (St. Louis, Mo.) on Friday for his preliminary night leading up to Saturday’s finale.
After losing a tire in his time trial session and failing to record a lap, Thornton jumped up two spots in his heat to finish sixth, sending him into a B-Main. Needing to place second or better in his consolation race to make the preliminary feature, Dylan came one spot short with a sixth-to-third run.
On Saturday, Dylan’s fifth-place finish in his heat relegated him into the Win & Your In Last Chance qualifier. Nearly pulling off the victory from the fourth row, Thornton fell short of the win to qualify for the $10,000-to-win finale but capped off the weekend by improving five positions to finish third.
